Mel Gibson extortion case largely completed, officials say

L.A. County sheriff's detectives have largely finished their investigation into whether actor Mel Gibson was the victim of extortion and plan to present it to prosecutors next week.

"The investigation is substantially done," sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. "We anticipate the district attorney will have it next week unless something happens that we don't anticipate."

Officials have spent months investigating claims that someone tried to extort money from Gibson, who is in a bitter custody dispute with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

Sheriff's investigators have spent months looking into whether Gibson struck Grigorieva and have said that case is closely tied to the extortion case.

For me is not new. Was sure Mel spoke the truth. Oksana is lying and dangerous. She should not stay with the custody of daughter Lucia. This is justice.

This is all so transparent that it is hard to fathom why it has been allowed to go on for so long. Grigorieva should not have been allowed to make these kinds of claims six months after the fact, with no police or hospital reports or chain of evidence. No one should be able to claim DV in custody court after a mediated agreement has been signed wherein the alleged "victim" gave custody to the supposedly "aggressive" parent. Up until their split, Grigorieva had praised Gibson to the press for being such a great parent (even after the alleged Jan 6 incident). But when he didn't pony up the amount she wanted in mediation, all of a sudden he became some kind of hideous monster who didn't deserve to see his baby girl. I personally think she should be charged for filing false claims of DV, illegally recording Mr. Gibson and for trying to game the system in custody court. This is just a shame and it has hurt a lot of people, not just Mel Gibson, their daughter and his family. It hurts women - especially DV victims - everywhere.
