Man slain by gunfire in Norwalk

Homicide detectives were responding Monday night to a deadly shooting in Norwalk.

The victim was described as 55-year-old man  gunned down about 7:30 p.m. in the 11100 block of Imperial Highway, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name was not released.

At least 23 homicides have been reported in Norwalk since January 2007, according to a database by The Times' Homicide Report. Nearly all the victims were slain by gunfire.

Anyone with information about Monday's killing is asked to call the department's homicide squad at (323) 890-5500.
