LAPD officers injured in hit-and-run in Mid-City area [Updated]

Two Los Angeles police officers were injured Tuesday night when a motorist slammed into their patrol car and fled, authorities said.

The hit-and-run collision occurred about 9:30 p.m. near Fairfax Boulevard and Whitworth Drive in the Mid-City area, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The extent of the officers' injuries was not immediately known.

[Updated at 10:53 p.m.: The officers were complaining of neck and back pain and were taken to hospitals for evaluation, the department said.]

Police had cordoned off a large section surrounding the scene as they searched for a suspect. The driver apparently fled in the vehicle after rear-ending the patrol car, said LAPD Officer Karen Rayner.

No other details were available.

Now I know why all those police sirens and helicopters have been going off for the last hour+... thanks for keeping us informed.

Great, that explains the choppers for the past 2 hours.

Seriously? Two hours of helicopters for this?

Glad I now know why there has been a helicopter circling above my house AND cops blocking off my street! For the last 2 hours!!! I can't believe someone is clueless enough to hit & run a police car...

I've been worried sick about my girlfriend for the last 3 hours as she lives in the area. Thanks to this article, I can now rest easy as it's only a pretty trivial case.
I'm not too happy that they had to scare her with police dogs in the yard and guns drawn whilst also refusing to tell her what it was all about.

That was a lonnnnng time with a helicopter over my house. I do hope they catch the suspect, though, and I'm very glad the officers weren't hurt any worse.

Also, exactly how stupid do you have to be to smash into a cop car and then flee the scene?

Can you say "DUI"!

Remind me once again if the suspect "apparently fled in the vehicle" why they're looking in the area around it?
The only way they could justify doing that is if they figured he was silly enough to hit a cop car, he wouldn't be intelligent enough to go very far. If only they caught those plates...

police hurt, the two that hit them run away, just what are the police made out of paper or are they just looking to milk as much money that they can from the tax payers.
