Icy condtions force closure of Grapevine

The California Highway Patrol closed a portion of the Grapevine about 8 p.m. Saturday due to icy weather conditions, authorities said.

Officers shut down Interstate 5 between Parker Road in Castaic and Fort Tejon Road in Lebec, Officer Monica Posada said. It is the same stretch of freeway that was closed during a snowstorm in early January.

It’s unclear when the road will be reopened, Posada said.

Snow-levels were below 2,000 feet in the area, and there were reports of black ice along some roads, said Stuart Seto, a specialist at the National Weather Service.

Posada said that officers escorted drivers along the Grapevine on Saturday afternoon, but conditions worsened this evening.
