Father who allegedly fled Bellflower with daughters calls authorities

February 28, 2011 | 12:08 pm

A father who allegedly fled the state with his two young daughters called authorities Monday to tell them the girls were safe with him in Utah.

Stephen Andrew Litwin, 34, allegedly took Katelyn, 2, and Natalya, 6, from a Bellflower residence about  10:30 a.m. Sunday. An Amber Alert was issued after authorities learned that Litwin had allegedly threatened to harm the girls.

The alert was cancelled about 9:30 a.m. Monday after Litwin heard about it in Utah and contacted Los Angeles County sheriff's authorities, said Lillian Peck, a sheriff's spokeswoman.

Katelyn and Natalya are reportedly safe, she said. Detectives were on their way to Utah to interview Litwin and the investigation was continuing.
