Americana at Brand expansion put on hold – for now

February 15, 2011 | 12:39 pm

Owners of a hotel in Glendale and Americana at Brand put their competing redevelopment proposals on hold as they continue their negotiations.

The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, was scheduled Tuesday morning to consider a plan by Rick Caruso to expand his mall.

Patel has won the support of property rights advocates in recent weeks, who have accused City Hall of playing favorites.

"Does the city stand with the city of Glendale, or does it stand with the wealthy or politically connected?" Mark Mlikotin, president of the California Alliance to Protect Private Property Rights, said at the morning rally before the meeting.
