Two earthquakes recorded in Orange County

The first occurred offshore at around 9:30 p.m. Friday near Newport Beach. The 2.9 temblor struck in the Gulf of Catalina about 15 miles southwest of Newport Beach and about 16 miles west of Laguna Beach, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The second quake occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday about three miles south of Yorba Linda and 33 miles east of downtown L.A.

There were no reports of damage from either temblors.
