Temecula rental truck manager pleads guilty to distributing marijuana

January 31, 2011 |  4:54 pm

David Jeffrey Barragan, 42, former manager of a Penske Truck Leasing outlet in Temecula, has pleaded guilty to distributing 2,200 pounds of marijuana and agreed to a 10-year prison sentence, the U.S. attorney's office in San Diego announced Monday.

In 2008, Barragan showed others how to build secret compartments in the rental trucks and then directed couriers to deliver loads of pot to Kentucky, Texas and Illinois, among other places, according to court records. He also created false documents for the loads.

Under a plea bargain, Barragan will be sentenced April 25.
