Santa Ana school police officer shoots man in street

A police officer for the Santa Ana Unified School District shot a man near a middle school Tuesday, authorities said.

The 10:12 a.m. shooting occurred at the intersection of 5th Street and Fairview Street next to Spurgeon Intermediate School, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Steve Colon.

The officer appears to have pursued the male, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, to the street corner for reasons that were still under investigation, Colon said.

No one else appeared to be hurt, police said.
