Part of Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point to stay closed

A portion of Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point that was washed out by a landslide will remain closed, authorities said Wednesday.

Brad Fowler of the Dana Point Public Works and Engineering Department said that he had hoped the highway would be completely cleared of soil by Wednesday night but that the work was proving more difficult than expected.

He said the northbound lane between Camino Capistrano and Palisades Drive will remain closed until Thursday evening.

The southbound lane will be opened for a short time at 5 p.m. Wednesday to allow commuters to pass, but will be closed  Thursday to give cleanup crews space to clear the road.

Both lanes will also be closed again Friday, Fowler said, so crews can finish previously scheduled work on a drain.
