Person dies after being struck by Metrolink train in Sylmar

A person was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by a Metrolink train in the San Fernando Valley.

The individual, who has not been identified, was hit by a commuter train shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Pierce Street and San Fernando Road in Sylmar, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Cecil Manresa.

The incident is being investigated, and no further details were available.

Metrolink officials said on their website that Train 221 on the Antelope Valley line was involved, but did not say how long commuters would be delayed.
