A South Gate man charged with allegedly beating his infant daughter to death is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, the L.A. County district attorney’s office said.

Jose Tulio Deras, 20, faces one count each of murder and assault on a child for the Jan. 15 killing of his 9-month-old daughter, Valerie. He allegedly killed her and assaulted his wife at their home.

Deras was due to appear in Downey Superior Court, said Deputy Dist. Atty. June Chung.

The charges included one count of sodomy by use of force against Deras’ wife, who alleges he tied and bound her and used a knife in the attack. He faces a maximum of 50 years to life in prison.

Bail was set at $5 million.
