Deputy shot in face; suspect killed in East L.A. shooting
A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy was shot in the cheek Tuesday night in East Los Angeles during an incident in which the alleged gunman was killed, authorities said.
"I'm grateful that the wound does not appear to be life-threatening," Sheriff Lee Baca said when contacted by The Times as he headed to the hospital.
The shooting occurred after the male suspect was confronted by two deputies on Floral Drive. Preliminary information indicates that a struggle ensued and gunfire broke out, said Nicole Nishida, a department spokesman.
Investigators were responding to the area.

Good job deputies! Keep up the good work, too many officers have been killed in the line of duty accross tbe country. It's much better when the suspect loses and is no longer a danger to society. God bless all law enforcement officers for doing the dangerous job you do.

Not sure why previous commenters are so happy the pigs killed another person but I hope the deputy recovers from his wounds soon. We may never know what REALLY happened but I'm positive the ordeal didn't have to end in death....it's no secret the deputies in east la are quick to shoot and slow to ask questions...

Repeat after me: immigration is a good thing. Immigration is a good thing. Immigration doesn't have social costs. Immigration doesn't have social costs.

This is why gang members will never get any respect or sympathy from the general public. This is one group of people that needs to be profiled consistently without second thought. They have ruined our neighborhoods & their parents should be punished as well for raising such a dispicable human being & costing the taxpayers $$$$ for the social programs & counseling wasted on these no good, ungrateful people.

Every day in every city, peace officers go out to do their job knowing that public sentement is usually against them, yet they are always there, protecting us inspite of ourselves.
God Bless this officer. May he recover quickly, and Thank you to his partner for bringing to an end any further threats to laws abiding citizens everywhere!

To Naomi, I would love to see you out there apparently doing a better job than they did!
Not end in death?
You have no idea what you are saying. And you'd be the first one to pull that trigger.
Way to go on surviving partner!

This encounter didn't HAVE to end in death. However, when parolee gang-bangers arm themselves with firearms and shoot at deputies, they're the ones who have chosen their fate. May the dearly departed rest in flames.

i worked ela courts for 20yrs and dealing with the ela deputies i have the ultimate respect for their hard work. after working at almost all of the courts in l.a. county for the other 20yrs. ela had the most respected and humane deputies. the training officer saved his own life and also his trainee's. a parolee with guns is not an innocent. for naomi to comment ela sheriff's are quick to shoot we are lucky the sheriff responded to save his life.

To Noemi, "not end in death"?? When a parolee arms himself with guns, what do you think they expect the end to be?? A hug?? A hand shake?? He sealed his fate himslef. Good job deputies...ne less low life with a gun off the streets. Noemi, one day when you're life or the life of a loved one is in danger, don't call cops.

Why Do People Have To Create Stereotypes About ONE situation?
Just Hope The Deputy The Best, and May The Man Rest In Peace, in The End, We Are All God's Children, No Matter What.

This comment is towards NOEMI!! You are quick to say that the incident that occurred did not have to end in death, but until you get in that cop car and deal with the every day people then you have the right to make a comment about who deserves to die and who does not. Also to state that deputies are quick to use their gun you might want to check your facts and understand that the actual gunman had two guns on him and he was not going to go down without a fight. There is always more than what you see on the outside because media makes everything seem so simple. It is not.

I hope that everyone on this blog opens their eyes and realizes killing is never good, to those that choose the gang lifestyle they know what the reprecussians can be, but to stand and applaud any one losing their life goes to show that you are no better than as you called him that scum of the earth lowlife. No matter what, that guy was somebody's son, grandson, brother or father and he paid with his life for the choices he made, and as the comment about his parents may God have mercy on you if you ever have kids that choose to live with no regard for their own lives or anyone else's, they don't have to be a gangbanger all they have to do is get druunk one night and run somebody over in the car that you bought them for graduation, and then let's see how fast you will be to condemn them to death or even a good prison term. But oh thats ok because they just made a bad choice I hope that we all open our eyes to the fact that we are all human beings and that that whole situation was a terrible thing influenced by powers greater than any of us! my prayers go out to all involved!

well the suspect may have not shot the officer, maybe it was his partner strugguling over the fire arm from the suspect.Did anyone think of that???????

TO: Naomi-- Are you simple minded? Getting shot in the face is not the time for the victim deputy or his partner to ask questions of the suspect. It's time to shoot back and with any luck get the S.O.B. toe tagged. Thats what happened and for that you call them pigs? If you are ever a victim of a crime who you going to call, A chollo?
