1 dead, 5 wounded in shooting at Sacramento strip mall
A woman was killed and five other people were wounded Tuesday afternoon during a gun battle at a Sacramento strip mall, authorities said.
Officials from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department told KXTV-TV Channel 10 that two men were in a barber shop called Fly-Cuts and Styles when two other men came in and started shooting. The first two men were armed and returned fire.
The gun battle continued into the parking lot, where a bullet struck a woman who was putting her 2-year-old into her Chevrolet SUV. The child was unharmed.
Officials have not released the name of the woman, but KXTV spoke with the victim's brother, Richard Nelson, who identified her as Monique Nelson. He said that the single mother worked as a supervisor for a company at Sacramento International Airport.
The wounded were taken to a hospital; their conditions were unknown.

Right. Another example of plenty of guns making America oh so much safer.

This is horrible.
"Guns don't kill people" say gun owners--- but unfortunately,
people kill other people with guns.
If they had been armed with knives, she could have escaped unharmed.

Hoo boy; It's a good thing this didn't happen in "dangerous" Mexico. It would have been the lead story on CNN and Fox. Another case of guns not killing people!

Any arrests? Or did the Police just show up for the clean up?

This is so senseless and tragic. My heart goes out to all the loved ones of Monique Nelson, and her baby girl who will grow up without her mom. God comfort the family in their loss.

Sacramento is becoming just like Oakland. It seems appropriate as the former Mayor of Oakland is moving to Sacramento to play Governor.

Welcome to the Wild, Wild West of the Golden state called California! How ironic, California is in the west. Looks like we are living the gold rush again, where anything goes.

Don't blame the guns, or lump the millions of law-abiding gun-owners with these 4 criminals. You can pass a law making anything illegal, but you will always have someone who will break that law. For every story like this one where a gun was used to commit a crime, you can match it with a story of one where a gun was used to prevent a crime. The entire blame for this woman's death and the injuries to those people lies squarely on the shoulders of those 4 men, not on "guns".

What are great world we live in.
This is what happens when people (criminals) do not believe in Karma. You cannot kill anyone if you believe in Actions and consequences. probably someone else will kill those shooters one day.
I feel sorry for the woman who got killed.

This a tragedy for this young mother and her child and you use it to tout gun control? I am pretty sure these weren't legally owned firearms and no gun law would have mattered here. Even if the US banned all manufacture and ownership of guns, there is no way to stop the Chinese and Russians and any other country from making them and no way to stop Mexicans and others from illegally smuggling them into the country. The key is not banning guns but teaching morality and educating kids on the sanctity of life. Oh but that's right...God forbid that I encourage morality and pushing my belief in the sanctity of life on others...better we should take the right of gun ownership way from law abiding citizens. Sigh...

I'm sure each of these shooters had purchased their weapons legally. Everytime someone gets killed as a result of gun violence, people want to use it as an an excuse to stand on their platform to rid us of the right to bear arms, but seldom are we talking about people who actually follow the legal path to law approved gun ownership. My prayers go out for the loved ones who lost this young single Mom today, especially the two year old who will now be forced to grow up without her.

When you outlaw guns only the criminals have guns.

People who own guns illegally are the problem, not people who own them legally. Illegal guns are cheaper and are not traced. Banning guns will just increase the illegal gun trade, and that will increase illegal activity, a.k.a. crime. It's sad what happened to this woman, but most likely all four guns used were illegally owned.
