Rain snarls area freeways

December 20, 2010 |  4:46 pm

Heavy rainfall was creating hazardous conditions Monday afternoon on L.A-area freeways, authorities said.

On the 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights, all southbound lanes were flooded between Cesar Chavez and Boyle avenues, the California Highway Patrol said.

On the 91 Freeway in Paramount, the onramp and offramp were closed at Paramount Boulevard because of flooding, the CHP said.

In Orange County, the CHP issued a traffic alert in Irvine because of flooding and closed the northbound 133 Freeway onramp to the 405 Freeway.

The downpours prompted the National Weather Service to issue advisories earlier Monday for flooding in downtown L.A. and foothill neighborhoods.
