Storm slams San Diego County, shutting down power and roads

December 22, 2010 |  7:18 am

Pounding rain and high winds resulted in flooding and blocked streets throughout San Diego County, particularly in Mission Valley, the border region and the mountainous part of the north county. About 15,000 homes lost power.

The commuter lane of Interstate 15 was shut from Escondido to San Diego; the Coaster commuter train from Oceanside to San Diego was also canceled due to debris blocking the tracks in Encinitas.

At Camp Pendleton, training and other activities were ordered restricted as roads were closed.  Only “critical personnel” were required to come to work.
