Santa Monica man sentenced in beating death of girlfriend
A Santa Monica man was sentenced Thursday to 56 years to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend and stuffing her body in a car trunk, authorities said.
Adel Tabrizi Chapel, 25, was accused of using a hammer in 2009 to fatally beat Denise Figueroa, who was 22, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said.
Authorities said Figueroa had been reported missing Feb. 28, 2009, after she left her mother's home and failed to come home.
A week later, police found her body in the trunk of a car in Valley Village. Officials had been notified by KTLA-TV Channel 5 that they had received an anonymous tip by fax saying that a homicide had been committed Feb. 28.
