Pacific Coast Highway remains closed in both directions

A stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County  blocked by a mudslide remained closed in both directions Monday evening, officials said.

The highway was shut down from 1.1 miles north of the Los Angeles County line to 4.4 miles south of Oxnard, the California Department of Transportation said shortly before 7 p.m.

Earlier in the day, crews were removing boulders and mud flows that blocked the highway after a Pacific storm blew across the region.

It was unclear how long the roadway would be closed.
