2-year-old runs over father's leg with pickup truck

December 15, 2010 | 11:49 am

A 2-year-old San Clemente girl in the cab of a pickup ran over her father's leg when she accidentally shifted the parked truck into gear, police said Wednesday.

The father and another man were working on the older-model truck Monday in the family’s driveway on Avenida Florencia with the girl in the cab when the pickup suddenly lurched forward.

“The front tire rolled over his left leg; it ripped the skin off from the ankle to the thigh,” said Lt. Mike Jansen of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “He was not pinned underneath.”

Despite the scare, both baby and father are OK. The father was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The lesson is obvious," Jansen said. "Don’t allow kids in the cabin of your car unsupervised.”
