Elderly couple found dead in Laguna Woods home

An elderly husband and wife who had been heard arguing with each other Monday were later found dead in their Laguna Woods home after their caretaker heard gunshots, authorities said.

The couple's caretaker made an emergency call at 1:05 p.m., saying she had heard the two heatedly arguing in their home, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The caretaker was in the home when she heard gunshots and ran outside. She heard a few more gunshots and ran back in, where she found the elderly man dead on the floor, Amormino said.

Both the 77-year-old man and 72-year-old woman were dead when deputies arrived.

“The coroner is en route, homicide is en route and at this point we’re just trying to determine what happened,” Amormino said.

As a gun owner, older folks naturally lose many skills, and some develop mental conditions.... like dementia. A test should be approved for elders to check if they can still own guns safely, and drive.
