Police arrest suspected bank robber on bus in Palms area

A suspected bank robber was taken into custody on a bus Thursday in the Palms area of West Los Angeles, authorities said.

The arrest was made several minutes after a robbery occurred at a Bank of America branch at Wilshire Boulevard and Midvale Avenue in Westwood, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department. The holdup was reported shortly before 5 p.m., she said.

A tracking device inside the bag that was given to the robber led officers to a Culver City bus at Sepulveda and Palms boulevards, Rayner said. Officers evacuated all passengers before taking the suspect into custody, she said.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the man was wanted in connection with four bank robberies in Westwood in addition to the one committed Thursday.

Rayner said the cash was recovered on the bus, but could not confirm whether a weapon was found.
