Southbound 5 Freeway closed by tanker-car collision

The southbound 5 Freeway was closed early Monday in Valencia when a tanker truck overturned after colliding with a car.

The two right lanes remained closed at about 8:15 a.m., but they were expected to open within an hour, said Officer Ed Jacobs of the California Highway Patrol.

The tanker, which was carrying butane gas, overturned after colliding with a Toyota Prius at about 3:03 a.m. near the McBean Parkway exit, Jacobs said.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, officials said.

Whoever was at fault in the "accident" should definitely have to pay $100k+ in restitution to all the drivers whose morning was disrupted and employers who lost out on their employees time.

and the big, "Tejon ranch" suburbia land scatter project is just waiting in the wings for the economy to pick up before sealing the fate of I5 in permanant gridlock from bakersfield to burbank. this kind of crash will be happening daily 24-7. as it is now, there are too many houses in valencia and santa clarita - the I5 was not designed to handle all of those newer residents. when are the people going to stand up to these developers and put a stop to these incessant housing projects destined to turn into low class crime ridden gettos within 20 years of their opening??

Valenica is a working-class dump.
