November 4, 2010 |  1:25 pm

A family spokeswoman confirmed Thursday that Julien Hug, 35, a former contestant on the reality TV show "The Bachelorette," was found dead in Riverside County.

Hug, the son of prominent San Diego restaurateur Bertrand Hug, vied for the heart of bachelorette Jillian Harris on the show in 2009.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department Deputy Melissa Nieburger said deputies found the body of an adult male off Highway 74 in Pinyon Pines, in unincorporated Riverside County, at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities have not officially identified the body, but Audrey Doherty, a spokeswoman for the Hug family, confirmed that it was Julien.

Family members are not talking to reporters, but they are "heartbroken," Doherty said.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the death.

[Updated at 2:40 p.m.: Jillian Harris, the Bachelorette who appeared with Hug on the ABC dating show in 2009, issued the following statement: "I am completely heartbroken for the Hug family, and my whole heart goes out to them today as they mourn a precious life that ended far too soon. I will always remember Julien's gentle demeanor and kind heart, which will be sadly missed."]
