Compton stabbing victim identified [Updated]

Map shows location of Saturday's fatal stabbing as well as 120 nearby homicides since January 2007. Click for more details. Authorities on Sunday identified a woman who was stabbed to death in Compton early Saturday.

Shamida Joyce Ward, 32, of Compton, died after being stabbed in the 700 block of West Compton Boulevard, said coroner’s Lt. Joe Bale.

Crime map: Track serious crime in Compton

Kamilah Dennis, a 32-year-old transient, was arrested on suspicion of murder, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Sylvia Brossoit.

Dennis was being held in lieu of $1-million bail, according to sheriff’s records.

[Updated 6 p.m.: Since January 2007, at least 120 people have been victims of homicides within two miles of Saturday's fatal stabbing in Compton, according to coroner's data collected in The Times interactive Homicide Report.]
