Boy, 5, dies of injuries in Halloween day shooting

November 1, 2010 | 10:55 pm

Aaron Shannon Jr., the 5-year-old boy shot in the head by alleged gang members on Sunday afternoon in South Los Angeles, died late Monday night, the family confirmed.

Aaron, who had been declared brain-dead earlier in the day by doctors at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, died about 10 p.m. Monday, his grandfather, William Shannon, told The Times.

Aaron had run into the backyard of the Florence-area home to show off his Spider-man Halloween costume to his grandfather and uncle when two young men who police say are gang members began shooting from the alley behind the yard.

Both Aaron's grandfather and uncle were grazed by bullets. One bullet struck the child in the back of his head.
