Check out salaries of UC employees. Their pay is going up despite tough times

The Register noted this pattern: "The number of University of California employees earning more than $200,000 continued to grow in 2009, even as the Board of Regents hiked fees, slashed jobs and cut back student admissions. Many of the top-paid UC employees also got significant salary boosts, with 288 people getting increases of $100,000 or greater."

SAVED ... FOR NOW: It looks like a beloved Echo Park art gallery is safe for now, reports Eastsider L.A.: "Fans of the Echo Curio Curiosity Shop & Gallery were saddened earlier this month when the owners of  the Echo Park art space said they would likely close up shop by year’s end after police forced them to stop hosting live music without the proper permits. But the owners have announced they think they have found a solution to get the proper permits and stay open: tea."
