4.6 earthquake hits California border region

November 4, 2010 | 12:55 pm

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit a California border town Thursday.

The quake hit at 12:46 p.m. near the town of Ocotillo in Imperial County. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The town has been the site of significant seismic activity this year, possibly tied to the 7.2 Easter Sunday temblor near Mexicali. There have been thousands of aftershocks from that quake.

The Thursday quake was centered about eight miles north from Ocotillo and about 27 miles from El Centro.
