Two killed in Riverside County plane crash

October 24, 2010 | 11:44 am

Two people were found dead in the wreckage of a home-built, single-engine airplane that crashed near the shore of Lake Matthews in Riverside County, authorities said Sunday.

The plane took off Saturday from Corona Municipal Airport with two people aboard and was reported missing after it failed to return that evening, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

Riverside County Sheriff's deputies found the wreckage around 10 a.m. Sunday about 100 yards from the shore of Lake Matthews.

Authorities have not released the names of the two victims.

The plane, identified by its tail number, was registered to Timothy R. Larson of Moreno Valley, FAA records show.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
