Three people injured in Catalina Island plane crash

Three people were injured Sunday afternoon when their light plane crashed, either on takeoff or landing near the Airport in the Sky on Catalina Island, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Parker.

The three were not identified and the extent of their injuries was not known. A sheriff’s helicopter was transporting them to a Los Angeles-area hospital, Parker said.

The crashed plane ignited a brush fire that burned at least three acres. Parker said Los Angeles County firefighters expected to be able to contain the blaze.
