Thousands without power in L.A. as rain, wind cause outages
Power outages caused by rain and wind Monday night were blamed for leaving more than 26,000 Los Angeles residents without electricity.
The neighborhoods most affected were in South Los Angeles, where about 19,000 customers were without power as of 9 p.m., the Department of Water and Power said.
The utility said about 3,700 customers were without power in Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights and Cypress Park. Another 4,000 customers were without electricity in Koreatown and southeast Los Angeles.
The DWP said crews were working to restore power as soon as possible.

We lost power in East LA on Oct. 4 at around 12:30pm. I called Edison and was informed that power would be back on in 6 hours. I kept checking throughout the day at work for the status, which stated it was out and they couldn't determine a time when it would be back on. Before going home at around 6pm, the website said that it would be resolved at 11:30pm. When I got home I called Edison again, and was told that power would not return until 1:00 am Tuesday morning. I was frustrated and asked if this time would be pushed to a further time or is it a set time. He couldn't be sure. It wasn't until after 11pm that power was finally up near the East Civic Center area. It was not until power was back on that I knew how widespread the outage. Edison should have done something so people could've been beter informed.

Our power, about a mile from the beach, is out now, was out yesterday afternoon/evening, and was out at 3:05 am. Maybe our exorbitant monthly payments to the DWP could go to infrastructure instead of fat-cat salaries and massive pensions? It's like we live in a third world country, the way the lights go out whenever the sky gives the slightest tinkle.
