Brutal, but are there ever any non-fatal collisions with pedestrians and trains?

how sad

yet another mislabled news report. shouldve read "person jumps in front of amtrak train:

This has happened before in Orange County where a father, football coach to kids, house, cars etc lost his job couldn't take it and sat on the Amtrak tracks somewhere around San Juan Capo and left his wife and children alone in this world. That's a tragic symptom of the deepening recession and lack of faith

Article in L.A.Now, 10/29/2010 - AMTRAK Train Hits,Kills Person in Orange County.
I'm getting tired of reading articles with this type headline. It almost reads like the train recklessly hit the person.
Look, if the person (or vehicle) were not on the track, they (or it) cannot be hit by a train. It's as simple as that. How about people taking responsibility for their own actions?
Suggest revision of the above type headlines so they reflect what actually happened.

Sounds like Amtrak train is killer on the prowl: Should be titled "Person hit by a train, unless there was a note left expressing a choice to be hit by Amtrak to protest higher fares over Metrolink? Please leave Amtrak out of it, they have enough to worry about !!!!

@Tony, that guy you mention was my brother-in-law. Thankfully we are a large family, and my sister-in-law and niece and nephew aren't alone in this world. But yes, it was a shockingly tragic situation. FYI: it had nothing to do with faith or a lack thereof. He was a member of a church and Xtian men's group. No one there saw the signs or knew he was planning this action.

beyond tragic. my best friend jumped in front of one in Irvine 16 yrs ago. you never get over something like that. :(

I feel bad for this guy's family and friends. But I always think it's odd when they say that it looks like a suicide when someone gets hit by a train. People don't usually get hit accidentally by a train. They just don't sneak up on you. They're on a fixed track. Of course it's suicide.

It's sad when someone takes his life this way. I'm sure he had a lot of personal
problems.
They are not all intentional. My friend was hit in Oceanside, CA trying to
say his dog. helpthomas.com
