Nine Norwalk homes evacuated after natural gas line leak, fire

October 6, 2010 |  5:12 pm

Nine homes in Norwalk were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a natural gas line leak apparently sparked a small fire, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which started shortly after 2 p.m in the 13300 block of Flatbush Avenue, the department said.

Inspector Frederick Stowers said it was unclear what caused the leak. He said Fire Department crews were standing by while Southern California Gas Co. workers fixed the leak.

"Everything is under control," Stowers said.

A gas company representative was not immediately available for comment.
