Motorcyclist dies after striking center divider on 405 Freeway [Updated]

A man in his late 20s died Saturday after his motorcycle struck the center divider on the southbound 405 Freeway, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released, was driving southbound at 70 miles per hour in the carpool lane south of Seal Beach Boulevard when the accident occurred just after 4 a.m., said California Highway Patrol dispatcher Gema Copeland.

[Updated 3:12 p.m.: The Orange County coroner’s office has identified the motorcyclist as Christopher McGinnis, 28, of Los Angeles.]

The motorcyclist was treated by paramedics and taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Copeland said.
