A fifth Marine from the Camp Pendleton-based 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment has been killed during combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Friday.

Lance Cpl. Irvin M. Ceniceros, 21, of Clarksville, Ark., was killed by small-arms fire while on foot patrol Thursday in southern Helmand province, on the Pakistani border.

Four other Marines from the same battalion were reported killed by a roadside bomb a day earlier in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold. The Three-Five is part of the 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton.

Ceniceros, a machine-gunner, enlisted in September 2007. He had deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Western Pacific in 2009.
