Thousand Oaks fire 50% contained

September 27, 2010 |  8:45 pm

Thousand-oaks-fire1 Firefighters battling a brush fire in Thousand Oaks had the blaze 50% contained Monday evening and were expecting to fully encircle the fire by Tuesday afternoon.

The fire had scorched about 50 acres after breaking out about 2 p.m., the Ventura County Fire Department said. Crews would be working through the night as they continue to douse hot spots and cut lines around the blaze's perimeter.

Earlier in the day, water-dropping helicopters fought the fire from the air as it burned across dry vegetation near the 101 Freeway. No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The cause was under investigation.
