Strong wind warning issued for Southern California

The National Weather Service has issued a warning about powerful northwest winds that could hit 40 mph Wednesday night through early Thursday morning.

The warning covers Interstate 5 in the Grapevine area and coastal and mountain areas near Santa Barbara.  The winds are expected to be 15 mph to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, according to the weather service.

The warning is in effect until 3 a.m. Thursday.
