Rapper T.I. arrested on drug charges in West Hollywood [Updated]

TI Rapper T.I. and his wife were arrested late Wednesday on drug possession charges after sheriff's deputies smelled marijuana coming from their vehicle during a traffic stop.

Sheriff's deputies pulled over the Atlanta-based rapper, Clifford Harris, 29, and his 36-year-old wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, about 10:30 p.m. at 9255 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood.

"During the course of the traffic stop, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," L.A. County sheriff's officials said in a statement.

"A narcotics investigation ensued," during which T.I. and his wife "were found to be in possession of a controlled substance," the statement read.

They were taken to the West Hollywood sheriff’s station and booked on drug possession charges.

Sheriff's officials did not specify why the two had been pulled over and what specific drug they were alleged to have.

T.I., a multiplatinum rapper with such hits as "Whatever You Like" and "Dead and Gone," is on probation after serving seven months in prison on weapons charges. He was released earlier this year.

His album "King Uncaged" is set to release this fall.

Cottle, an R&B vocalist who sang in the group Xscape, has starred in the BET reality series "The Tiny & Toya Show."

Harris and Cottle each posted $10,000 bail and have been released, sheriff's officials said.

[Updated at 10:08 a.m.: The rapper and his wife were arrested on charges of possessing “pills resembling Ecstasy” that deputies found in their vehicle after pulling them over on suspicion of making an illegal U-turn, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

“The pills are being tested as we speak,” she said.

The couple was released from jail about 4 a.m.]

who cares dudes music is garbage anyway

"His album "King Uncaged" is set to release this fall." .....Nothing like a run in with law to promote your new album.

Stupid is stupid does ......

We all still LOVE you both...keep ya head up! You both are human!!!! People make mistakes. If you both wasn't celebrities , you wouldn't make worldwide NEWS. So there are people doing the same stuff everyday. You are still the 'King of the South"!!!!!

Love ya,

When I saw this I said to myself, what else is new; this doesn’t surprise me at all. What I don’t understand is WHY. You have all this money and you decide to do something as brainless, foolish, unintelligent and careless as this. What were they thinking? I don’t drink alcohol because it controls your way of thinking and I never used drugs because it’s addictive; so with that being said this is why I’m so against it. You can’t control what people do, but if you drink or use drugs do it in the privacy of your home and not in the streets, let alone in your car while driving. He just got out of jail not too long ago so Rapper T.I. name Clifford Harris and wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle were definitely not thinking. Harris and Cottle each posted $10,000 bail and have been released, sheriff's officials said. Spending $20,000 for bail could've been put to better use, than posting bail.

I'm SHOCKED! What a tool this guy is!

Bishop Walter Dixon’s of Atlanta, GA Exclusive Prayer for “Clifford Harris a.k.a Grammy Winner Rapper T.I. and wife Cottle Harris”.

My Dear Brother and Sister T.I., wife Cottle Harris.

I have been lead by the “Holy Spirit” to write this prayer for you and wife Cottle as and ask the both of you pray this prayer together to “God” I trust this prayer will bring you both one step closer by faith to “Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. (John 3:16, 17).

Therefore having been justified by faith, I have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also I have obtained my introduction by faith into this grace in which I stand; and I exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but I also exult in my tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out within my heart through the Holy Spirit who was given to me (Romans 5:1-5).

I’m afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed knowing that by faith He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise me also with Jesus and will present my mind, body and most important, my soul with him.

Therefore I do not lose heart, but through my inner flesh is decaying yet my inner soul is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for me an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while I look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporally, but the things which are not seen are eternal (2.Corinthians 4:8,9,14 16-18).

As I lay this fragile body down by faith for my Lord Jesus Christ to be near me to defend me, within me to refresh me, around me to preserve me, before me to guide me, behind me to justify me, above me to bless me. I will lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost for all the remaining days of my life.

Our Father, be gracious to your children Cottle and Clifford Harris, O God, according to Thy loving kindness and According to the greatness of Thy compassion. They asked for your help, Father they maybe perplexed and maybe afraid sometimes for not being able to see that which the next hour may bring. God if it is your will give your children extended years while they is on earth through your “Grace”.

Father whatever may need to be done to their souls and flesh, please do it? Father once again I ask you to send your angle down from Heaven to watch over them as they weather this storm. Father as they exit this dark tunnel let them both be stronger by faith in your son Jesus name.

T.I. and Tameka Cottle Arrested Photos

I love T.I. and Tinay but this is unacceptable. Just a few weeks ago I saw T.I. on a talk show talking about taking responsibility for his life and being a role model to his children. C'mon T.I., get it together! Same goes to you Tiny.

How do you get busted for weed in W. Hollywood??!! I'm sure he had some powder or something else on him, but c'mon you idiot, out on probation and you're rollin' down sunset gettin' high??! You my fiend, are no Pac, so don't think that being in-and-out f jail is going to do you music career any favors. Oh yeah, and make better music please!!

Too bad this guy can't use Paris' famous "it's not my purse" defense.

To Sarah:

How can you call someone foolish when you've never had to experience their way of life? T.I. wasn't always a rich rapper. He had to come up too. And for people who did have it hard like T.I. or 2pac, they might need somthing to releive anxiety or stress. You say you don't drink alcohol or smoke, odds are, this is because you don't know what stress or anxiety is. And if you do then you're probobly taking some sort of stress medication, which also controls your way of thinking (like alcohol). And if for some reason you're not on ANYTHING, then you're either a lucky person who can insantaniously control her emotions on command or underaged. People call alcohol and marijuana crutches to society; but don't crutches help people walk? Human emotions are strong and they're one of the only things that give humans their own purpose in life, so why not up the anti a little bit and give a good mood a jump start instead of walking around mopeing and depressed all day.

"People make mistakes." HOW MANY TIMES??? How many times before it is not a mistake, but a choice? These people --celebrity status aside--are the PARENTS of children. Personal accountability...when does this ever come into play before we start making excuses? T.I. just got out of prison, has been honoring his community service by speaking to CHILDREN and is now in violation of his parole. He obviously hasn't learned his lesson and must face the consequences. I love his music --but lock him up!

To Sarah:

P.S. Marijuana only lasts so long and T.I. has a busy scheduel. How do you expect him to smoke at home all the time when he has stuff to do all day long. Plus, it's been proven the "high" drivers are up to 80% safer than drunk drivers, and it shouldn't even matter if T.I. smokes in public or not because he doesn't have an important enough job to have to stay 100% sober when he's working.

This is crazy! God is gone be with them both, marijuana should just be legalized because too many people are being arrested for it and the incarceration rates are increasing because of it. i think they just wanna bother T.I. because they know the predicament he's in and they are keeping open eyes on him waiting for him to get out of line. He's probably stressed out because of the situation before already.

Keep it at home people.

I bet if you were famous, you would be in the news for the same thing. When you are a nobody then guess what, no one cares what you do. His garbage music has him making way more money then you could ever dream on Dan so keep that in mind!

Dang TI you were just released like 5 more ago.....com'on.

It appears that you have not learned your lesson.

T.I. You can do that stuff in the South. Not in California. And no way on Sunset Blvd....

Dude be smart for your kids...

much ado about nothing.

this is suspect period.

they smelled marijuana coming from his car(excuse to pull him over). but they found NONE!

they found some pills, that MIGHT be drugs. and they are testing them? you can determine if it is a drug right out in the field.

suspect all around. zealous cops.

its scary that anyone can get pulled over like that. all they gotta say is, i smelled marijuana coming from the car.

TI wouldnt be so stupid to get caught up like this.

Ok, so I'm assuming since a lot of these comments were early in the day, most of you believe that it was just weed, now we know that it was codiene syrup and ecstacy. Even if it was just weed, this guy just did about a year for a crime that most people would spends years in prison for, so I don't feel for him what so ever. God helps those who helps themselves, so in no way was he helping himself. He and his wife have children, did they think that they were so untouchable that nothing would happen, and on top of all of that, he does an illegal u-turn in the middle of the road. He was asking for trouble, so I say so be it.

Marijuana prohibition causes more problems than it solves, and ruins thousands more lives than it supposedly tries to save.

Enforcing marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers an estimated $10 billion annually and results in the arrest of more than 847,000 individuals per year -- far more than the total number of arrestees for all violent crimes combined, including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Of those charged with marijuana violations, approximately 89 percent, 754,224 Americans were charged with possession only. The remaining 93,640 individuals were charged with "sale/manufacture," a category that includes all cultivation offenses, even those where the marijuana was being grown for personal or medical use. In past years, roughly 30 percent of those arrested were age 19 or younger. (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition)

US drug war has met none of its goals

After 40 years, the United States' war on drugs has cost $1 trillion and hundreds of thousands of lives, and for what? Drug use is rampant and violence even more brutal and widespread.

Even U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske concedes the strategy hasn't worked.
"In the grand scheme, it has not been successful," Kerlikowske told The Associated Press. "Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems is, if anything, magnified, intensified."
