Police investigating suspicious package at USC [Updated]

Authorities at USC have evacuated a building and closed several streets after discovering a suspicious package in a science building.

[Updated at 3:07 p.m.: Campus officials said the package "checked OK" and that it was safe to return to the building.

A campus spokesman said the suspicious item turned out to be a magazine with LED lights.]

An alert was sent to students just after 2 p.m. advising them to stay away from Hedco Neurosciences Building at Watt and Downey ways while campus public safety officers investigate the scene.

Downey Way from McClintock Avenue to just east of Watt Way is closed along with Watt Way from Childs Way to south of Downey Way, according to the alert.
