Orange County motorist dies in 5 Freeway collision

A motorist was killed Sunday when his vehicle collided with a truck on the 5 Freeway in La Mirada, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. on the southbound freeway near Valley View Avenue when the motorist in a Chevy Suburban struck the rear of a big rig that was going about 35 mph, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jacobs.

Authorities have not determined how fast the sports utility vehicle was going or why it rammed the truck, Jacobs said.

The truck driver was not injured. The motorist, identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as David Recinos, 30, of Placentia, was transported La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
