LAPD squad cars chase after protesters on 6th Street in Westlake
Riot-clad Los Angeles police officers in patrol cars Wednesday night were playing a cat-and-mouse game with throngs of protesters along 6th Street in the third straight day of violent clashes following the deadly shooting of a Guatemalan immigrant who allegedly threatened officers and passersby by with a knife.
A few hundred people had gathered at Burlington Avenue and 6th in Westlake, where some hurled bottles at squad cars. Others shouted "Pig!" and profanities at officers as they got out of their vehicles, rifles in their hands.
At least one fire was lighted, but it was quickly extinguished.
Dozens of police cars, lights flashing and sirens wailing, chased after groups of protesters who were running along 6th, near the scene where Manuel Jamines, 37, was shot Sunday afternoon by an LAPD officer.
The LAPD earlier declared a modified tactical alert, holding over extra patrol officers.

I live in the middle of this chaos. I hate the people destroying my neighborhood. I do not condone police brutality(I am not sure there was any in this case), the people protesting are going about it the wrong way. The cops are not being hurt by the fires, the trash bins being turned over on to the streets, this is only hurting the people that live here and who have to clean up after the protesters go home. We actually confronted one of the protesters outside of the Food 4 Less parking lot and asked her if she even lived in the area, she said "no." These are some of the saddest days of my life. What a great way to show everyone how Latinos unite.

I love it when people say they could have done something else besides shoot him dead. Ive heard on the news they should have threw a net over him, blew his kneecaps off, pepper spray(hit or miss if it works), tackled him, wrestle the knife out of his hand, shoot his legs out till he cant attack anymore. LOL @ stupidity of the human race.

Let me get this right, someone here has a knife with what appearED to have blood on it, threatened people with the knife, ignored the orders to put down the knife and advanced on the officers, and there is chaos. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 72 IMMIGRANT MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN FROM CENTRAL AMERICA WHO WERE LINED UP AND EXECUTED IN MEXICO?? JUSTICE?!?! NO ARRESTS YET AND THERE WON'T BE. WHERE ARE THE PROTESTS FOR JUSTICE FOR THESE PEOPLE?!?! The anger should be for those innocent people who are being executed in Mexico, but the PROTESTERS HERE DON'T HAVE THE COURAGE TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT, ONLY FOR WHAT IS EASY.

People that act as uncivilized as these "protesters" do, are our worst citizens! These ingrates disgust me.

Elena, we Police Officers know that these thugs and knuckleheads go not speak for or represent the majority of the Latino community.

What way would have you handled the situation? If you were faced with a drunk tying to kill you with a knife and the only sure way to stop him from killing or hurting you is to shoot him would you do it? That's what these cops were faced with. No one wants to get injured doing there job. In the movies the weapon is always shot out of the bad guys hand then there handcuffed, that's HOLLYWOOD, not real life. The three cops were all Hispanic and I bet atleast one of them grew up in the area. From what I can see most of the LAPD cops that patrol my area are Hispanic, so this theory that the LAPD is targeting the helpless Latino community is crazy and false. Would have this same community that has came together to riot have came together to honor one of the responding officers if they would of been killed by the suspect, after all the officer would have also been a LATINO ?

First let me say;
Zintax I agree with you, what a bunch of morons destroying there own neighborhood.
If it would have been a Black Man then the blacks would be up in arms and God forbid it be a Muslim.
I'm wondering, was this person an illegal immigrant? And how many of the protesters illegal immigrants?
Do we have a problem with Illegal immigration?
It appears that we do!
If you have a knife and the police tell you to put it down in two different language's and you get killed because you don't; THAN THAT'S YOUR OWN FAULT. dumba**
So if anyone is at fault, it would be that impostor calling himself President Obama for not enforcing the boarder laws.

Five score and seventeen years ago my forefathers entered this country legally through Ellis Island. They susequently accepted meanial jobs while attending classes in English and basic civics in order to pass their citizenship tests. Once they had accomplished this the entire family dressed in their Sunday best and stood before a majistrate to pledge their loyalty to their new homeland. Once the ink on their citizenship papers dried they held a block party to celebrate the new opportunities that laid before them. They did this all without food stamps, wellfare or Medi Cal. American citizenship was earned not pirated. My blood boils when I watch the tab to the city skyrocket in order to facillitate a march by thousands of illegal immigrants demanding their rights!

The state government in California is responsible for the whole mess. They have for years invited illegals from all over t he world to move to LA. The place is getting just what it deserves. The old special order 40 is working wonders.
