McCourts continue mediation talks into the evening

The daylong mediation talks between Frank and Jamie McCourt have extended past 5 p.m. It is uncertain how much progress has been made, but the parties are expected to return to court Saturday to continue discussions.

"If you're asking if we're on the verge of an agreement, the answer is no," said one of the participants in the talks.

The parties are trying to resolve a divorce case in which the future of the Dodgers is at stake.The McCourts are in attendance, accompanied by several lawyers.

In the absence of a settlement, Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon would rule on the validity of a disputed 2004 agreement. Frank has asked the court to uphold the agreement, which would leave him with sole ownership of the Dodgers. Jamie has asked the court to throw out the agreement, in which case the Dodgers would be considered community property and probably would be sold.

If the parties cannot resolve the case, the divorce trial would resume Monday, for its third and presumably final week.
