Fire breaks out near 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks
On a day of record-setting heat, a small brush fire broke out Monday in Thousand Oaks, prompting a major response from firefighters.
According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the fire broke out off the 101 Freeway near Hampshire Road after 2 p.m. The blaze, burning in brush-covered hills, is not currently threatening homes.
Footage from KCAL-TV Channel 9 shows smoke surrounding a water storage facility and industrial complex but not close to homes. It appears, however, that some residents were leaving the area.
Water-dropping helicopters and hand crews were fighting the blaze.
