Deputies responded to a report of shots fired, and later, victims down, about 12:50 a.m. in the 4800 block of Union Pacific Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The 25-year-old was dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Witnesses saw a dark-colored sedan driving east on Union Pacific after the shooting.

"The motive for the murder is still under investigation, but it's likely to be gang-related,"  Lt. Pat Nelson said.

Authorities have not identified the man who died pending notification of his family.
