Suspect in Torrance shooting found dead in apartment complex

A man suspected of shooting and killing another man in a Torrance apartment complex was found dead in his room early Monday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

SWAT teams secured the apartment complex Sunday evening after police found a man dead in the complex's courtyard from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities have not yet released the names of either person.

The alleged shooter was a resident of the complex in the 4000 block of 242nd Street, near Hawthorne Boulevard, but the victim’s connection was unclear, said Sgt. Jeremiah Hart of the Torrance Police Department.

Because the suspected shooter was not immediately found in the courtyard, police were forced to get a warrant before they began searching inside the apartment, Hart said.

The suspected shooter was found around 1 a.m. Monday. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still being investigated, Hart said.
