Guest at wedding reception fatally shot during argument
A Sun Valley wedding reception turned deadly early Sunday after an argument led to the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man, authorities said.
Jose Arroyo-Martinez of Canoga Park was outside Michael’s Banquet Hall in the 8400 block of Lankershim Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. when he and another guest at the reception began arguing, according to Los Angeles Police Sgt. Rudy Alaniz and a Los Angeles County coroner's investigator.
Arroyo-Martinez was shot in the abdomen, Alaniz said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled in a vehicle but crashed on the 5 Freeway near the Penrose Street exit, where he was detained by California Highway Patrol officers and handed over to Los Angeles police. His name and age were not given.
