Villaraigosa back to normal routine after bike accident

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa probably will need three to four months for his broken right elbow to fully recover from last weekend’s bicycle accident on Venice Boulevard, a spokeswoman for the mayor said Friday.

Villaraigosa was launched over his handle bars Saturday after a taxicab abruptly pulled in front of him as he pedaled along with a member of his security team. Villaraigosa was immediately taken to UCLA Medical Center.

The elbow was broken in eight places and doctors treated him by inserting at least eight screws and a metal plate, said mayoral aide Sarah Hamilton. Villaraigosa later appeared wearing a sling and said he was glad he had been wearing a bicycle helmet because in the tumble his head also struck the pavement.

No charges will be filed against the taxi driver.

Despite the lengthy recovery period, Hamilton said, Villaraigosa has resumed a normal schedule.

Poor baby, should we set up a special fund for you? Looser!

well mr. mayor.....welcome to my world...because of incompetent politicians in city hall..people like you and I suffer from lack of safer bike lanes.....

call it KARMA

Good thing Villaraigosa didn't hurt his lips. Now that injury would have made it impossible to resume his normal schedule.

Why weren't charges filed against the driver?

Back to normal? You mean going to free concerts, doing nothing, and stealing from tax payers?

Thats too bad
I hate happy endings

back to "normal" for you is doing nothing but posing for pictures......boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Villaraigosa has resumed a normal schedule" - what does that mean?

He took time off from digging this city into a deeper hole?

Him having an irregular schedule may be a good thing for us all....

Where did the Mayor's trip start and what was the intended destination?

Is his injury considered IOD (injury on duty) aka worker's comp?

Bike lanes won't solve anything. The problem here are the mentality of drivers. Los Angeles is known for very impatient people. I walk around the city for my occupation, and do you have any idea how many times I have come across irrate drives that act like asses when I cross the street like I'm ruining their day and wasting their five seconds?

Rember to smile, pose, and talk to the Camera.

while arizona is spending money fighting the lame lawsuits against them...he is sitting on his couch recovering. who cares! he is such a loser!

wish he had bumped his head. might have put some sense into him!

yes boohoo and im sure all payed for by our tax dollars

Who's paying for this?

Why don't we hear about the LA PD officers that tried to cause this same type of injury to a cyclist.

Maybe he he should not turn a blind eye to this case now that he knows how serious a bike accident can be.

If the taxi caused the accident why wasn't their a citation issued?

This is a serious problem and not citing a taxi driver in a hurry ws not sending the correct message and not prosecuting the officers involved in the bike/camera beating also sends the wrong message.

May I suggest that since you should not be driving with an impaired elbow, Mr. Mayor - this would be a good time for you to ride around on the MTA buses so that you can personally get a dose of how MTA bus drivers shut the door and drive away from the elderly and the disabled people so they can't board public transportation in your city. You've been paid alot of perks from MTA and have lobbied passionately for more federal funds for public transportation (MTA) - go sit in the seats yourself designated 'Priority' seats for the elderly and the disabled passengers. Since the non-disabled passengers will happily tell you to go eff-off because they are not offering to give up their seat and don't care that it is a priority seat for the elderly and the disabled people - there should also be several non-disabled people crowding the aisle at the front of the bus who will fall on you so your broken elbow can be re-injured. In case you need to file a re-injury Claim - then, Hertz Claims Service will also happily tell you to go eff off on behalf of MTA!

We should boycott Villaraigosa.

Back to his normal routine of flushing Los Angeles down the toilet. Great!

Oh brother....you make it sound like it's an abnormally long time for his elbow to heal. It's not. Also his elbow will never be "fully recovered." The time marks when his arm will be useable again without sustaining more injury or discomfort. What a crybaby.

I am surprise that for all the stealing and evil things that this man had done, the incident wajust an accident.

Why is this news?

LA's finest: Mayor Villaraigosa, who failed the bar exam 8 times.

That's a better story.

too bad he didn't permanently break his mouth. he is a colossal douche

The headline should read "Pacho Villa-raigosa [remember Pacho was a criminal] back to normal routine cleanning toiletts..."
