The milkman still delivers in L.A. after all these years

Jim Pastor's service contracts with Rockview Dairy to bring milk to more than 4,800 SoCal homes.

One of the hardest parts of Jim Pastor's job is convincing people that he exists: He's a milkman.

"The reaction is always the same," Pastor said. "People say, 'Really? A milkman? Like in the old days?' They always have a hard time believing it."

Pastor owns a Santa Ana-based delivery service that contracts with Rockview Farms, one of the largest family-owned dairies in Southern California. Each week, Pastor and his team of 14 milkmen drive their refrigerated trucks to more than 4,800 homes along routes in Los Angeles and Orange counties. They arrive in the wee morning hours and dash up to the front door, leaving behind cartons of farm-fresh milk, cheese, eggs, bread, butter and more.

You had to go to Orange County to find a milkman? Seriously??? Try Altadena---we get deliveries every week from Altadena Dairy.

I don't trust Rockview Farms. Look at http://www.cornucopia.org which surveys and inspects dairy farms across the country to determine who is the real deal and who is not. It shows that Rockview did not participate. Not a good sign.

I couldn't bellive it either untill my brother was hired by Rockview Farms and told me they fix trailers to milk trucks. Milk trucks? Yes there's milk men still delivering. Those trucks are in good hands and quality of their products are exceptional.

I would like to supplement my previous post. The Cornucopia Institute evaluates dairy brands across the US that claim to be organic. Rockview sells "Our Good Heart Organics Milk" but has not participated in Cornicopia's survey. I am suspicious of any company that does not permit independant verification of its 'organic" practices. Why has Rockview failed to participate?

It just ain't the same if they aren't in glass bottles...

i trust rockview completely!! My dads jim pastor. i grew up around the milk business i promise the milk is fresh!! and great quality, my parents put lots of time in there work, and they look at their customers as family! they only want the best for them so they try their hardest to provide everyone with great deals, and of course fresh milk!! and as far as the cows go, i dont know much, but one thing i do know is the cows are treated great!! they get all the organic food they need! their own room! and a personal air conditioning. i know, im a big animal lover! i know lots of people want glass bottles back. so i have been talking to my dad about the glass bottle, he would love to bring them back but they are just not clean, and if we reuse the glass it will contain germs. but we are working hard on coming up with better waysss! bestttt wishes - colleen r. pastor.
