LAPD and FBI join forces to help solve homicides in South Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Police Department and FBI are forming a federally-funded homicide task force to help solve murders in South Los Angeles, historically the most deadly part of the city, officials plan to announce Friday.

The Operation Save Our Streets Joint Task Force will be formally announced by LAPD Asst. Chief Earl Paysinger and Deputy Chief Patrick Gannon along with FBI Special Agent Bill Lewis at the 77th Street Area Community Police Station.

Homicides in the LAPD's South Bureau are down 7% so far this year, but two of the four divisions that make up the area have seen increases after several years of large drops.

From Jan. 1 to June 26, there were 38 homicides in the two divisions in 2010, compared with 30 during the same period in 2009, according to LAPD statistics. Violent crimes dropped 9% and property crimes fell 11%, compared with the same year-ago period.

Citywide, homicides are up 4% for the first six months of 2010, compared with the same period in 2009.

You dont need a task force comprised of FBI agents. They have no experience in anything field related. But I understand LAPD, they are equally incompetent, but this is a money issue. The FBI has to be involved for the federal funds to be donated. So the Feds as inexperienced as they are will have to tag along.

OR YOU COULD JUST CALL THE SHERIFFS IN, THEIR HOMICIDE UNITS ARE FAR ABOVE THE INFERIOR LEVEL OF LAPD INVESTIGATORS.

BRING IN THE SHERIFF AND THE CITY CRIME RATES WILL DROP DRASTICALLY AND MANY MORE HOMICIDE CASES WOULD BE CLOSED.

What allegations have been made of Federal crimes that would authorize the FBI to enter homicide investigations in the city of Los Angeles?

Let's see if we can connect the dots. 3 strikes law is implemented and crime rates decrease. Budget problems require the early release of violent felons and crime rates increase. Okay I think I've got it: keeping violent criminals in prison results in lower crime rates. All right that took me 60 seconds. Let's see how many years and how many billions of dollars will be required for the county and feds to come to the conclusion that white-flight is the root cause of all violent crime in LA.

Great. Federal subsidy for LA's "sanctuary". We the taxpayers of Texas say your welcome Los Scandoulous. How bout another Federal Grant? Can't you tax a movie star and hire more HOMICIDE DETECTIVES? FBI are lawyers, not investigators...

Has anyone noticed that once they started calling it "South" instead of "South Central" the murder rate went up?

Just sayin'

The known gangsters and their families should pay for the costs. Theyre the ones who create the mayhem. Make them pay and if they dont like it, tough luck.

Build a fence around the place.

Dear Mike, If you can do any better, feel free to join the rank and files buddy!!!! Thanks.

Historically, the most deadly part of the city is not South Los Angeles it is East Los Angeles Please get your facts straight. Media driven propaganda is a dangerous thing, just look how you have the world view the US.

To tell the truth is not a bad thing

Ohh.. the gang members, are these the kids we sent to school, paid welfare for using our money, now look at them.

"The known gangsters and their families should pay for the costs. "...If only.
Rarely does a street thug have any assets you could profitably seize.
Your rank-and-file bonehead puts his money into flashy cars , gaudy jewelry, and toys, not bank accounts and real estate.
Yes, FBI agents are not street cops, but have powers (try RICO on for size), specialties, far-reaching connections and abilities, and MONEY. Let's welcome them, and any other agencies that want in.

If J. Edgar Hoover were alive today and was Chief of the LAPD, there would be virtually no crime in Los Angeles. Gone are the days of real top cops, like Hoover, Daryl F. Gates, William H. Parker.

I agree Mike:

The LASD have always had a superior Homicide Bureau with a excellent solve ratio. LAPD unfortunately are the "Feds" of Municipal Police Departments meaning they don't play well with others. Because of this issue, they lose valuable information pipelines form the Sheriff and other Departments making their solve rate good to poor. Sorry #2 in Blue, the LASD is #1.

seem strange...when the fed get in on lapd cases...should the chief be the one to represent the feds instead of asst chief? are is he somewhere supporting the illegal immigrant cause.
