The controversial speech by Sarah Palin at Cal State Stanislaus turned out the be the most successful fundraiser in the campus' history, officials said Friday.

Palin's selection as the keynote speaker at Cal State Stanislaus' main fundraising event brought worldwide attention and provoked furious speculation and debate when the university refused to disclose her speaking fee. The event was sponsored by a foundation for the school.

Sources told The Times last month that Palin was paid $75,000 plus expenses for hotel, airfare and transportation. But the steadfast refusal to confirm the number by university officials caused a standoff with open government advocates.

The event raised $207,000 for the university, school officials told the Associated Press Friday.

They said it was school's most successful fundraiser.
