Santa Ana resident charged with murder in beating death of homeless man

Jorge Alejandro Lopez charged with Santa Ana murder.  A Santa Ana man was charged Wednesday with using a 25-pound piece of concrete to beat a homeless man to death, authorities said

Jorge Alejandro Lopez, 33, is charged with one count of murder and a sentencing enhancement of using a deadly weapon, the Orange County district attorney's office said.

Lopez reportedly punched Marco Rojo Nieto on Saturday and knocked  him to the ground near a construction site on Bristol Street in Santa Ana. Lopez then grabbed the concrete and smashed the victim in the face and chest, according to prosecutors.

Lopez appeared in court Wednesday and is scheduled for another hearing Aug. 27.
